LGBTQ+ Victory Fund Endorses Ben Harman for Newburyport City Council, Ward 4

National organization endorses Harman because he will be a strong voice for equality when elected

Newburyport, Massachusetts – Today LGBTQ+ Victory Fund – the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ+ people to public office – endorsed Ben Harman for Newburyport City Council. The endorsement signals Victory Fund’s confidence that Harman is well-positioned to win the council race in Ward 4 and be a strong voice for equality. 

Harman serves as Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Point Foundation, the largest LGBTQ+ scholarship-granting organization in the country. Point's current class of scholars includes 575 individuals of which 55% are first generation college students, 24% identify as transgender or non-binary, and 84% identify as people of color or bi/multi-racial. Additionally, Harman serves on the Newburyport Human Rights Commission to promote a sense of welcome and inclusion for all residents within greater Newburyport. 

LGBTQ+ people remain severely underrepresented in government nationwide – holding just 0.2 percent of elected positions despite representing at least 7.2 percent of the U.S. population, according to LGBTQ+ Victory Institute. As an out LGBTQ+ leader, Harman will be an unwavering voice for equality on the Newburyport City Council. His priorities in office will include affordable housing, environmental protections and building a home for Newburyport Youth Services.
